A Typical Day

The Visitor Center Lead is responsible for all daily operations throughout the Visitor Center. Leads work alongside and direct part-time Visitor Center staff to deliver exceptional customer service. Leads contribute to a clean Visitor Center.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform Visitor Center staff duties while serving as a working lead to the team.
  • Lead, train, coach, and direct VC Staff employees to ensure consistent service standards and task completion.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including register balancing, cash handling, and sales batching at the start and/or end of each business day.
  • Provide excellent, friendly, and professional customer service to all guests, addressing questions, concerns, or special requests.
  • Provide guests an overview of Hilmar Cheese Company, Visitor Center activities and services (tours, catering, deli/café specials, and special events).
  • Serve as the on-shift contact for janitorial staff to provide direction for daily cleaning tasks, restocking supplies, ensuring cleanliness of the Visitor Center, and verifying work meets safety and sanitation standards.
  • Oversee and support pickups including coordinating timing with staff, verifying order accuracy, and ensuring proper handling and storage procedures are followed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by enforcing cleanliness, food safety, and workplace safety standards.
  • Communicates operational updates to the Visitor Center Manager/Assistant Manager.
  • Assist management with inventory, supply needs, and reports operational issues as they arise.

What You Will Need

  • High School Diploma
  • Demonstrates basic numeric understanding to open and close cash register, accurately count money, process a sale, collect money and provide correct change.
  • Time management skills
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Skills in leadership and teambuilding 

What Will Put You Ahead

  • One year related experience
  • Prior restaurant or food service experience.
  • Understands first in, first out rotation and inventory theory to ensure freshness of products.
  • Food Handler Certification and Responsible Beverage Service Certificate – within 30 days of start date.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires limited physical exertion with exposure to potentially hazardous conditions or safety hazards. The majority of time is spent walking or standing.  There are occasional periods of sedentary work.  Is required to wear PPE and have a regular in environments in both temperature controlled and uncontrolled locations. Must frequently interact with people verbally.  Specific details of the essential functions of the position is available in the Job Safety Analysis, made available on request.
