A Typical Day

The Visitors Center Assistant Manager is Responsible for overseeing daily supervision of the visitor center employees to ensure exemplary customer service. Responsible to train, schedule and supervise visitor center staff, leads, cooks and janitors. Improves menu and recipes, manages food inventory, and ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations.  It is expected the Assistant Manager will spend the majority of the time on the visitor center floor overseeing the guest experience.

Job Responsibilities

•Ensures that the Visitor Center operates safely, efficiently and effectively; communicating priority information, scheduling staff to meet labor targets and making informed decision before purchasing to meet cost of goods goals.
•Exhibit friendly customer service with the ability to investigate and resolve guest complaints and criticism in a positive manner.  Educate and empower team to act in a similar capacity.
•Ensure a safe environment with adherence to all local, state, and federal laws and regulations (health, safety, sanitation and facilities).
•Leads as an on-the-floor service manager as the business needs dictate (peak hours) and assists with in-house deliveries and with catering events.
•Hire, schedule, approve timesheets and conduct performance reviews of personnel which includes compliance and tracking of California Food Handler and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certifications.
•Train, coach and develop staff communicating regularly about safety and company updates.
•Utilize Optimum Control to manage deli/cafe inventory including purchase within cost guidelines, receipt, storage, rotation, waste, and matching inventory to invoices and code for proper payment. 
•Assist with menu development, costing, item entry into OnePOS, staff training and product execution of deli/café menu. 
•Assist with visitor center repairs and maintenance using internal maintenance team and external vendors. 
•Assist with annual gift box production organization, fulfillment and seasonal staff.
•Assist with house accounts, Hilmar corporate sponsored donations, internal events and fundraisers. 

What You Will Need

•Associates degree High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution plus 3 years’ related experience.
•3 years of leadership experience
•Must be able to work weekends
•3 years of experience in catering / Retail or Food Industry 
•Experience with commercial kitchen equipment.
•Ability to lift up to 50lbs
•Must be Food Safety Manager certified or obtain within 30 days of hire

What Will Put You Ahead

•College degree or certification in culinary arts
•4 year management experience in food or retail industry  
•Food service and retail industry experience 
•Understanding of menu costing
•Understanding of foodservice equipment operation
•Experience with One POS, Seven Shifts, Canva and/or Optimum Control Inventory System

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The work is primarily performed in an office environment and the physical demands are characteristic of a mostly sedentary role.  Specific details of the essential functions of the position is available in the Job Safety Analysis, made available on request.

The final compensation offered within this range will depend on factors including the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
