Value Stream Manager

A Typical Day

The Value Stream Manager is directly responsible for providing leadership for the continuous improvement efforts of Hilmar Cheese Company.  Teamwork, employee engagement, a structured and systematic approach to improvement initiatives, and alignment with stakeholder expectations are essential activities of the position.

Job Responsibilities
  • Own the value stream improvement at the site level which encompasses milk receiving through final finished goods shipping.  
  • Lead, guide, and manage operational excellence initiatives across multiple cross functional teams.
  • Serve as a change agent in the change management process.
  • Set up operational excellence reporting at local, department, site and corporate levels.
  • Drive increased organizational competence to reliably and consistently produce higher quality products in specification, on time and within cost objectives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and changes affecting the Company and Industry that could positively affect operational excellence capabilities and act as the trainer for formal problem solving systems and methodologies.
  • Coordinate with process engineering when process capability needs to be enhanced.
  • Effectively use continuous improvement methodologies and systematic problem solving techniques to drive a reduction in variation as measured through a formal statistical process control program.
  • Plan, manage, and lead the operational excellence auditing process.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and asset management teams to optimize material management practices and material flows.
  • Coordinate the transfer of knowledge from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) throughout the organization.
  • Provide quality input to influence the decisions of senior leadership within Hilmar Cheese Company.
  • Work effectively within a matrix leadership structure to achieve common goals.

What You Will Need
  • English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write and speak English
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of manufacturing experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of production operations and relationship to quality, yield and cost.
  • Software program proficiency in: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Black Belt Certification
  • Advanced knowledge of plant system and processes.
  • Completion of HCC internal technical training programs.
  • Food Safety Plan and Food Quality Plan expertise.

  • Exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, gases, or other irritating substances.

  • Exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity depending on time of year.

Working surface is primarily concrete. Where standing is required, there are rubber mats which are one-half inch thick.
