Technical Manager - Water Reclamation

A Typical Day

Responsible for the providing technical leadership and guidance in the design and operation of all elements of the wastewater treatment systems at all HCC manufacturing sites. Provides guidance on operation and analysis of the systems.  The role provides leadership in two key areas ensuring compliance and ensuring that the investment made in constructing and operating the wastewater treatment and water reclamation processes delivers the best possible value to the business. 
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Operating as the technical manager, actively leads a team that partners with other peers in the company to consistently drive the business forward in its quest for operational excellence for all wastewater treatment and water reclamation processes, current and future. 
  • Develops and maintains the Technical Strategy for all wastewater treatment and water reclamation processes, current and future. Works cross functionally to ensure that this strategy aligns with needs and expectations of other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interact with and direct outside consultants and equipment vendors to obtain desired results and ensure HCC has access to most up to date knowledge of opportunities to improve process performance. 
  • Monitors and reviews water reclamation plant performance across the manufacturing sites, identifying and working on opportunities to raise the bar. Target areas include but are not exclusive to, compliance, capacity, cost of operation, and process performance. Additionally, communicate these opportunities both financially and technically and drive their execution. 
  • Work with HCC Engineering and Outside Vendors to design wastewater treatment systems and individual system components.
  • Trouble-shoot issues, developing and implementing cost effective recommendations.
  • Provide Technical support to ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's in Environmental Engineering or related field plus 7 years related experience OR Master’s degree plus 3 years related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of food processing wastewater treatment systems.
  • Extensive knowledge and operational experience of UASB, EGSB and related technologies for the dairy or related food processing industries.
  • Technical experience in large scale dairy or related food processing industry.
  • Technical experience in supporting the remedial action of wastewater treatment plant upsets.
  • Experience with biological and physic-chemical mitigation of chemical consumption for the dairy or related food processing industries.
  • Experience with remote control operation of large scale food processing wastewater systems.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with the toxicity of protein, lipid, and lactic acid fermentation in relation to anaerobic digestion of dairy wastewater.
  • Understanding of microbiology, biochemistry and inorganic chemistry pertaining to wastewater treatment systems and production operations.
     

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's in Environmental Engineering or related field plus 10 years related experience OR Master's degree plus 5 years related experience.
     

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The role has periods of time when the work environment is sedentary and conducted in an office environment balanced with frequent occasions that require prolonged walking or standing, lifting/ carrying/handling moderate weight objects on a regular basis.   Is required to wear PPE and have a regular presence in manufacturing and warehouse environments in both temperature controlled and uncontrolled locations.
