Sustainability Manager (Remote)

A Typical Day

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for coordination of federal, county and state environment compliance activities, and associated long term strategic project management designed to meet Hilmar Cheese Sustainability Goals.


This position is open to remote candidates and may be performed anywhere in the United States, except for in the state of Colorado and Connecticut. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for oversight of customer grant and government funding opportunities for sustainability projects.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of environmental policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements and company policies in the sustainability Portfolio.
  • Integrate sustainability in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and coordinate all site sustainability sampling and reporting.
  • Lead environmental incident investigation activities as needed.
  • Active participation and ownership in training and development program and associated activities, classes and events, which will be held before, during, after shifts and during scheduled days off.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or related degree plus 5 years’ related experience OR Master’s degree plus 1 year related experience.
  • 3 years working experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2 years of direct environmental regulatory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of USEPA and local environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting and reporting protocols.
  • Strong analytical background with an emphasis on modeling in R, Python, or other suite.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including use of Word, Excel, using formulas and pivot tables, and PowerPoint.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years’ related experience OR Master’s degree plus 2 years related experience OR Ph.D or post-graduate work in Environmental or Engineering.
  • 2 years’ experience in Environmental Compliance or related field.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The work is primarily performed in an office environment and the physical demands are characteristic of a mostly sedentary role.  Specific details of the essential functions of the position is available in the Job Safety Analysis, made available on request.
