Supervisor - Food Safety and Sanitation

A Typical Day

The Food Safety and Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for providing supervisory and technical support to Quality Assurance, Operations, Maintenance, Quality Systems and Engineering.  Manage functions, related to Food Safety.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages, oversees and audits the daily activities of the HACCP program, ensuring its execution and effectiveness.
  • Enforce HACCP Compliance and report deviations.
  • In the event that the Food Safety Supervisor is unable to perform their food safety duties, the site Quality Assurance Manager, or their designee will perform the duties.
  • They are the back-up SQF practitioner for the site if the Quality Manager and Quality Systems Coordinator are unable to perform their duties.
  • Conduct, manage and report internal GMP, HACCP, Environmental and Pest Control Audits. 
  • Provided supervision of Food Safety Technicians and Buildings and Grounds technicians including, staffing, scheduling, annual reviews, training, coaching and managing performance.
  • Provide supervision for Custodial Staff. 
  • Works closely with Engineering and Maintenance Staff to assist with equipment design, implementation, and Food Safety Permit inspection and Project reviews. 
  • Manage and report on the Hilmar Cheese Company Hygiene Zoning Program. 
  • Assist in the organization, development and task of customer visits and audits.
  • Assist with customer and product complaint resolution, CAPA and PIN resolution.
  • Assist Quality Systems Team with HACCP verification and validation. 
  • Assist Corporate QA / Food Safety with Policy Enforcement.
  • Facilitate site pest control activities working closely with external vendor.
  • Conduct Contractor GMP / Food Safety Training.
  • Manage Equipment Food Safety Inspections and Food Safety Permit process. 
  • Conduct COA review for incoming shipments (non-milk)
  • Ensures execution and verifies effectiveness of site Environmental Microbiological Surveillance Program. 
  • Ensure CLEAN reports (environmental) are executed from opening to closure.
  • Provide support for regulatory audits and inspections (USDA, FDA, CDFA, TDSHS).  
  • Review, investigate, assign, and close PINs related to food safety or quality
  • Oversee Environmental Disruption Reports and Food Safety Permits through closure.
  • Annual completion of OSHA required safety training.
  • Annual First Aid and CPR Certification maintained.
  • Promote Company Culture
  • Achieve common business goals through cooperative alignment with all departments.
  • Drive and lead verification of sanitation activities to support food safety, product quality, and ensure regulatory and customer compliance.
  • Support data collection of sanitation metrics that aid reporting and utilized to drive improvement of sanitation processes and activities to site management. 
  • Audit Master Sanitation Schedules to ensure activities are executed to the program.


 

What You Will Need

  • English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write and speak English 
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years QA and/or manufacturing experience OR High School Diploma from an accredited institution and 5 years QA and/or manufacturing experience. 
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts (days/Swings/graveyard).
  • Working knowledge of SQF (Safe Quality Foods) Code  
  • Intermediate experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Tactical knowledge of Production Operations management and food safety relevance  
  • Intermediate understanding of Food Safety related State and Federal Regulations
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Pass the level 1 Post Offer Employment Testing (POET)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Advanced degree in Food Science, Biological, Chemistry or related field  
  • Supervisory experience 
  • Intermediate experience with SAP and Ultimus
  • Advanced understanding of Food Safety Related State and Federal Regulations, including Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) 
  • Completion of HCC internal technical training programs

Working surface is primarily concrete. Where standing is required, there are rubber mats which are one-half inch thick.
