Sr. Programmer - Wonderware and Shopfloor Applications

A Typical Day

The Sr. Programmer – Wonderware and Shopfloor Applications works under moderate supervision and is responsible for all facets of the application programming lifecycle management for complex software solutions in a process manufacturing environment. Sr. Programmer – Wonderware and Shopfloor Applications will also software development, test & management functions for medium to large-sized projects.  Focus areas include:  Wonderware programming, PLC programming, shopfloor custom application development and manufacturing execution systems (MES) and the integration to ERP solutions.  

Job Responsibilities
  • Provides best practices and discipline around programming leadership and ensures that all programming projects adhere to standard practices of application lifecycle management methodology.
  • Acts as technical resource to process engineers and operations department managers regarding programming architecture and technology use on the shopfloor.
  • Manages sandbox and process simulation environment. Collaborates with Process Engineers to validate and deploy process control enhancements.
  • Collaborates with and technically mentors junior members of the department both informally and within the project framework.
  • Ensures that all applications deliver a consistent high level of quality, minimizing program bugs and/or inefficiencies through standardized testing procedures.
  • Coordinates efforts across all I.S. groups and ensures full communication of project-related work to these groups.
  • Provides technical support for all applications as necessary, both during and after project completion.
  • Responsibilities includes Wonderware programming, Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems, SCADA communication network, and automation systems, administration and maintenance of the Wonderware, SCADA system software and ensure support to insure 24 hours per day/ 7 days per week (24/7) reliability, resilience and functionality.
  • Develop a development, test and rollout framework (coordinated approach) that allows process engineers to troubleshoot and make minor enhancements to existing systems without the need of the programmers getting overburdened. The new changed way, enables structured and organized process and improves design and delivery schedule.
  • Programming of PLC applications and HMI interfaces from a variety of manufacturers including experience with contrologix. HMI configuration experience including graphical screen development and programming
  • Ability to apply skill set in working with manufacturing clients to identify solutions, develop software, and deliver projects successfully.

What You Will Need
  • English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write and speak English
  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution and 10 years hands on experience with software development lifecycle, programing of Wonderware, PLC and shopfloor applications OR Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Systems, Electronic Engineering or similarly related field and 3 years hands on experience with software development lifecycle, programing of Wonderware, PLC and shopfloor applications.
  • Applied understanding of multiple level relationships of industrial control and management systems design, processing, data collection, integration, and reporting with particular experience for levels 3 and 4.
  • Experience with Design and supply of systems for planning, recipe management, scheduling, track and trace, quality record management
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and associated tools, and SQL language for data structuring and data access methods
  • Senior level knowledge of one or more programming languages for program development. These include C#, C++, C, Visual Basic, Java, or other object-oriented and scripting languages. Experience may also include use of procedural languages, ASP, and .net framework

Working surface is primarily concrete. Where standing is required, there are rubber mats which are one-half inch thick.
