Programmer Analyst II (PLC/SCADA)

A Typical Day

The PLC/SCADA Programmer Analyst II works under moderate supervision and is responsible for all facets of the application programming lifecycle management for software solutions in a process manufacturing environment.  Also, the Programmer II will lead medium to large-sized projects and collaborate with other member of the IS department on the analysis, design, troubleshooting, problem resolution, maintenance, and documentation of software systems and programs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensures that all applications deliver a consistent high level of quality by minimizing program bugs and inefficiencies through standardized testing procedures
  • Participates in functional and technical specifications reviews, and application code reviews
  • Coordinates efforts across all I.S. groups and ensures full communication of project-related work to these groups.
  • Provides technical support for all applications as necessary, both during and after project completion
  • Assumes technical project leadership role within the project team when designated.
  • Gathers and translates business requirements into detailed functional specifications and technical specifications, and manages requests for changes to the specifications.
  • Develops and supports Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and PLC applications under moderate supervision
  • Supports manufacturing business team in a 24x7x365 environment
  • Administrates the manufacturing applications landscape ensuring a stable, reliable, highly available, and secure manufacturing environment
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems using diagnostic equipment to ensure proper installation and operation of control systems.
  • Inspect & diagnose malfunctioning systems and components such as electrical systems, equipment, motor control, and its components to identify and correct problems.
What You Will Need
  • High School Diploma and 10 years related experience OR Associate's degree in computer science or Engineering and 5 years related experience OR Bachelor's in computer science or related field plus 3 years related experience OR Master’s degree
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to learn, comprehend, and use, various methods, procedures, and techniques used in developing and writing computer programs.
  • Strong trouble-shooting, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to effectively manages multiple priorities 
  • Ability to understand complex business processes, rules, and gain business acumen to become subject matter experts
  • Ability to read P & ID’s, flow diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Experience developing simple SCADA and PLC applications.
  • Knowledge of networking and communication protocols, such as but not limited to, Ethernet, Asi, Modbus, IO-Link. ControlNet and DeviceNet.
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation and the programming and configuring of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's in computer science or related field plus 5 years related experience OR Master’s degree plus 1 year related experience
  • Experience with Wonderware InTouch HMI and/or Rockwell ControlLogix Control Systems

  • The employee will primarily be spending time using the computer to complete job tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry 45 pounds.
  • Sit, stand and / or walk almost the entire workday.
