A Typical Day

The Payroll Supervisor oversees payroll operations, ensures compliance, and leads the payroll team. This role resolves complex issues, drives process improvements, and partners with HR and Finance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee pay.
  • Lead and develop payroll staff, assigning tasks and monitoring performance and providing guidance.
  • Review, audit, and approve payroll entries, adjustments, deductions, bonuses, and special payments.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local wage and hour laws; stay current on regulatory and tax changes
  • Coordinate with Finance on payroll account reconciliations, month-end close, and tax filings, including quarterly/annual reporting and audits.
  • Audit payroll data for accuracy, including timesheets, leave records, and benefit deductions.
  • Collaborate with HR and HRMS teams on new hires, terminations, salary changes, policy updates, and system configuration/testing.
  • Prepare ad hoc payroll reports for management, finance, external auditors, and pension funding requirements.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in payroll workflows.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of payroll information and employee data.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors for payroll systems, benefits, and timekeeping solutions.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll, accounting or related field in a lead or supervisory capacity
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and compliance requirements (federal, state/provincial, and local).
  • Familiarity with timekeeping systems (Workforce) and integration jobs.
  • Experience with multi-state taxation
  • Experience with payroll systems such as ADP, Workforce, UKG (Kronos), or similar platforms.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related fields 
  • 7+ years of experience processing Payroll  
  • 5+ years of effective leadership skills with proven ability to lead change
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong auditing and data validation skills.
  • Understanding of payroll accounting, general ledger interfaces, and reconciliation processes.

The final compensation offered within this range will depend on factors including the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
