Manager - Advanced Analytical Service

A Typical Day

This is a R&D position with a designated obligation to the corporate analytical support. The main duties will be to support product development projects and corporate chemical analytical needs by organizing efforts to develop, validate, and implement analytical methods for measuring composition, chemical and physical properties, and biological activities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the Advanced Analytical group to develop, validate, and implement analytical methods to measure composition, chemical and physical properties, and biological activities of dairy product streams to support research and product development efforts and QA/QC testing needs.
  • Coordinate and conduct research projects which require proper utilization of various analytical methods. Assist interpretation of the analytical results on implications to these research projects. 
  • Maintain laboratory instruments in good working order through proper calibration protocols and trouble-shooting when needed. 
  • Provide support to quality controls, manufacturing and customer inquiries to ensure the data are interpreted correctly.
  • Review and audit testing SOPs for both R&D and QA department. 
  • Design measurement and QC test for the analytical test methods. Analyze test information to determine repeatability and reproducibility of these test results. 
  • Facilitates efficient implementation of the new test methods through the development of standard operating procedures and training of personnel to conduct the tests.
  • Identify analytical chemistry skill set needs for company. Propose remedies to fulfill the needs through staff training or acquiring specialized resources.
  • Write technical papers and reports on the methods developed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of analytical technologies through scientific or trade journals and participation of professional organizational activities.
     

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's degree plus 7 years related experience OR Master’s degree plus 3 years related experience.
  • 3 years leading and managing people.
  • Good chemistry knowledge including food chemical composition, structures, properties and potential reactions and familiar with the properties and safe handling of common chemical reagents
  • Knowledge of chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry techniques for determination of organic compounds and proteins.
  • Knowledge of industry quality control principles.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with multiple projects and deadlines.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • PhD in Chemistry or related field plus 10 years’ related experience.
  • Good knowledge of dairy chemistry, specifically in the field of dairy protein and lactose chemistry.
  • Experiences in utilizing chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry techniques such as HPLC-MS and FTIR in Food/Dairy industry.
  • Experience setting to develop analytical method for dairy components.
  • Experiences in analytical test method validation.
  • Experienced in guiding staff with multiple projects and priorities.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The work is primarily performed in an office environment and the physical demands are characteristic of a mostly sedentary role.  Specific details of the essential functions of the position is available in the Job Safety Analysis, made available on request.
