Industrial Network Manager

A Typical Day

The Industrial Network Manager is responsible for all automated controls development and implementation in a complex manufacturing environment. Will lead the Industrial Network team in controls development for ongoing projects and daily operations. Anticipate complex technical issues and develop strategic plans to eliminate or manage aging equipment risk factors. Focus areas include Wonderware programming, PLC programming, shop floor custom application development and system expandability and sustainability.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for administration and development of all industrial applications, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and PLC applications.
  • Administration of manufacturing applications landscape ensuring a stable, reliable, highly available, and secure manufacturing environment.
  • Technical resource to Engineering and Operations department managers regarding programming architecture and technology used on production floor.
  • Drive department support of site maintenance & reliability related to troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with and mentor junior members of the department, both informally and within project frameworks.
  • Conduct employee skill assessments and develop training and education plans.
  • Maintain detailed technical specifications and standards for hardware related to PLC & SCADA networks.
  • Ensure that all applications deliver a consistent high level of quality, minimizing program bugs and/or inefficiencies through standardized testing procedures.
  • Apply skill set in working with manufacturing clients to identify solutions, develop software, and deliver projects successfully.
  • Work with project engineering group to ensure implementation of annual capital plan. 
  • Coordinates efforts across Engineering, Operations and IT groups to ensure full communication of project-related work and deliverables.
  • Standardization – Creation and ownership of standardized processes for updates, deployments, and approve process-change management. Work with operations to manage and prioritize program change request.
  • Develop and deploy processes and programs for the escalation of issues that impact manufacturing. This includes automated features that monitor the industrial network at all times and provide triggers to the site industrial network team when potential problems are detected.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's degree plus 7 years related experience OR Master’s degree plus 3 year related experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with programmable logic controller (PLCs), to include control systems, installation and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of networking and communications protocols, such as but not limited to, Ethernet, Asi, Modbus, IO-Link, Controlnet and DeviceNet.
  • Knowledge of electrical control systems and design.
  • Strong trouble-shooting, critical thinking, analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and objectives.
  • Ability to understand complex business processes, rules, and gain business acumen to become subject matter expert.
  • Understanding of multiple level relationships of industrial control and management systems designs.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical controls schematics.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's plus 10 years related experience OR Master's degree plus 5 years related experience.
  • Understanding of electrical safety and Arc flash standards.
  • Food processing and dairy industry experience. 
  • Interfaces to SAP systems.
  • Ability to use computer-assisted engineering software (AutoCAD).
  • Ability to read P&IDs, flow diagrams.
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation, function and application of Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Experience with PID loop systems.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The role has periods of time when the work environment is sedentary and conducted in an office environment balanced with frequent occasions that require prolonged walking or standing, lifting/ carrying/handling moderate weight objects on a regular basis.   Is required to wear PPE and have a regular presence in manufacturing and warehouse environments in both temperature controlled and uncontrolled locations.
