Corporate Safety, Health and Security Manager

A Typical Day

The Corporate Safety, Health and Security Manager is responsible for the administration of the Health, Safety, Security and the Workers Compensation programs that will reduce loss through accident prevention/reduction methods, team member and management team, accident investigation and inspection, and development and implementation of the company’s security strategy.  Directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of the safety and workers’ compensation programs, including insurance, safety, loss control, and property/liability claims programs; coordinates assigned activities with other departments, and outside agencies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assumes management responsibility for assigned services and activities of the Security, Health and Safety Divisions, including safety and workers compensation.
  • Manages third-party administrators; manages request for proposal process and ISNet vendor process.
  • Develops programs to ensure HCC’s compliance with Federal, State and local safety regulatory requirements, in addition to other health, safety and loss prevention standards and guidelines.  Monitor programs for compliance with Federal and State OSHA standards and CalARP.
  • Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; recommends, within departmental policy, appropriate service and staffing levels.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned staff; assigns work activities, projects, and programs; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Oversees and coordinates safety program activities; ensures compliance with OSHA and related local, state, and federal regulations; conducts safety inspections; responds to complaints of safety hazards; oversees and/or conducts safety training and committees; reviews and updates all OSHA related programs and policies as necessary.
  • Administers loss prevention programs and addresses problem areas for both workers’ compensation, safety and general liability; monitors programs for compliance with existing and new laws; analyzes and reviews policies and programs and coordinates changes with Human Resources and General Counsel.
  • Oversees administration of Enterprise wide training programs to minimize losses resulting from accidents, natural causes, regulatory non-compliance, and legal insurance claims against the Enterprise; oversees and maintains database for related training needs.
  • Provides responsible staff assistance to the Director of Environmental, Health & Safety, and Security; conducts a variety of organizational investigations, and operational studies; recommends modifications to Risk and Safety programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
  • Manages and strengthens the business relationships with all stakeholders by participating in departmental and/or individual meetings to develop an in-depth knowledge of operations to understand the business and their needs; engage in continual improvement practices for all processes and programs.
  • Prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays current on new trends and innovations in the field of Risk Management, Security, and Safety.
  • Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive team member and or/management inquiries and concerns related to Risk, Security, and Safety. 
  • Will develop and maintain all Emergency and Response Plans for Security, Safety, and Risk.
  • Responsible for strategic security planning and continuous improvement of security systems and processes to ensure the security of all people, properties and products.
  • Support the safe and prompt response to, and resolution of, any site emergencies.
  • Responsible for compliance with state & municipal ordinances dealing with training, permits, uniforms and registration of security staff.
     
What You Will Need
  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Safety required or equivalent experience and 7 years of safety experience, including Health and Safety Training experience. OR a Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience.
  • OSHA 500/501 Certified.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.  
  • Strong knowledge of current OSHA, CalARP and safety regulations 
  • Experience in the gathering and compilation of data, and preparation of reports. 
  • Inductive reasoning to create workplace safety resolutions. 
  • Ability to write company policies and procedures. 
     
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Safety required or equivalent experience and 10 years of safety experience, including Health and Safety Training experience.OR a Master’s Degree with 5 years of experience.
  • CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional)  
  • Proven track record of developing record systems, reports and accident investigation.
  • Strong background knowledge of electronic security systems and devices.
  • Experience in developing and delivering security related training.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits

Working surface is primarily concrete. Where standing is required, there are rubber mats which are one-half inch thick.
