Administrator I (Associate Computer Engineer)

A Typical Day

The Administrator I (Associate Computer Engineer) is responsible for setup, configuration, and support of internal and external systems.  Additionally, develops, maintains and troubleshoots all systems, applications, security, data and network configurations. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains data and systems security, and systems maintenance procedures. 
  • Provides troubleshooting assistance for business and technical staff operational issues.
  • Evaluates upgrades, patches and new applications and equipment.  
  • Uses software to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use. 
  • Analyzes performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement. 
  • Refines, automates, manages, and documents processes, policies and plans. 
  • Tests/validates disaster recovery plans and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate procedural documentation and support materials.
  • Communicates with management in a simple convincing manner and on all levels with peers.
  • Analyzes and monitor network, firewall, spam traffic.  Provide early intrusion detection.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration & maintenance of the Active Directory.
  • Performs operational processes validation for Network and Data Security Standards.
  • Refine and update security awareness programs and security policy for compliance.
  • Performs regular internal and external IT security assessments for penetration testing.
  • Performs routine audits of hardware and software to identify security vulnerabilities.



What You Will Need
  • High School Diploma and 7 years related experience, OR Associate's degree in computer science in related field plus 3 years related experience, OR Bachelor's in computer science or related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary team

What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field + 2 years’ experience OR Master’s degree in computer science or related field. 
  • Professional Certifications
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products such as Windows Server, SQL Server, Exchange Server, ODBC connections 
  • Working knowledge of server-related technology (e.g. RAID, SAN, cluster, services, DBMS, and network applications).  
  • Knowledge of active directory, firewalls, Spam Filters, Azure and AWS architecture.
  • CISSP training and Certification
  • Knowledge of one or more programming languages, C#, C++, C, Microsoft SQL, Visual Basic, and Java or other object-oriented and scripting languages. 
  • Knowledge of SQL language for data structuring and data access methods.
  • Knowledge of Server and application hardening

  • The employee will primarily be spending time using the computer to complete job tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry 45 pounds.
  • Sit, stand and / or walk almost the entire workday.
