Sr. Cheese Technical Coordinator

A Typical Day

Reporting to the Cheese Plant Manager, this position is responsible for managing cheese recipes and ensuring that customers are receiving product that is up to their quality standards. Responsible for managing the graders and ensuring development of the sensory program and supervisor. Through effective management of cheese recipes, the employee is expected to drive the continuous improvement of Hilmar Cheese products. Directly responsible for managing operational set points and targets to achieve processing targets and consistency, and for managing the technical and recipe parameters of Starter Culture manufacturing. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing daily recipe set points and recipe attainment for cheese and milk.
  • Responsible for managing the graders to ensure timely and accurate sensory feedback.
  • Effective analysis, management, and reporting of cheese chemistry results and variation related to targets or ranges.
  • Monitoring and reporting undergrade cheese production.
  • Investigate and respond to Cheese Customer complaints verbally and in writing.
  • Monitoring Cheese grading results and ensuring that customers are satisfied with the product quality.
  • Monitor the performance of Lab Instruments and collaborate with Quality Assurance in maintaining the accuracy of the data reported.
  • Assist Technical Services Manager in answering product performance concerns and addressing specific requirements of cheese customers.
  • Assist Technical Services Manager and other Coordinators in R&D projects, Process Improvement projects, and trials relating to cheese.
  • Make recommendations to improve quality and efficiency of cheese make operations.
  • Work with cross functional teams including but not limited to other Coordinators throughout the business.
  • Mindful of requirement for Harmonization of cheese performance among production facilities.
  • Responsible for document control.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Supervision
The following positions report to this position:

  • 1 – Cheese Grading Supervisor
  • 3- Cheese Grading Technicians

 

What You Will Need

M.S. or B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Food Science, Dairy Science or closely related field

 

4 years cheese or ingredients manufacturing experience (with bachelor’s degree, or two years experience with M.S.)

 

Special Requirements

1 year experience and demonstrated proficiency in the following:

  1. process improvement programs and procedures
  2. knowledge of production operations management for quality, yield and cost
  3. knowledge of plant technical activities

 

Travel Requirements

International travel to Mexico, approximately 2 trips/year for approximately 5 days at a time. Domestic travel to various cities in the United States approximately 4 trips/year for approximately 5 days at a time.
