Maintenance and Operations Coordinator

A Typical Day

Responsible for the effective execution of all maintenance and facility planning, scheduling of all projects within the plants at the Permeate Plant, storeroom inventory and PdM program. In order to fulfill these responsibilities in the most effective manner, you must facilitate the development of a highly skilled, well trained, committed and spirited “Maintenance Team” to support the plant operations in their quest for high quality, low cost objectives as defined by the mission of Hilmar Cheese Company.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a safe and effective working environment for the Maintenance and Facility Team.
  • Conduct team meetings daily covering safety topics and weekly covering equipment, processes and expansion.   
  • Reviews available planned job package for completeness and correctness. 
  • Refines and finalizes labor, parts, and priorities for all tasks.
  • Responsible for planning/scheduling of preventative and predictive maintenance. 
  • Confirms that the proper numbers of mechanics are assigned to each job.
  • Assures that all jobs will be done economically, efficiently and safely.
  • Ensures, at the start of the shift and throughout the day, the prompt assignment of mechanics to specific jobs, which are appropriate to their possessed skills, and or to their training needs.
  • Ensures job quality and efficiency by frequently checking jobs in progress.
  • Controls time lost between jobs and at breaks and shift changes.Makes tactical decisions when necessary; staying as close to schedule as possible.
  • Assure the acceptance of work as completed by talking with our internal customers.
  • Follow-up with mechanics on suggestions of ways to improve either planning or job methods.
  • Coordinates maintenance effort between shifts to achieve orderly change over.
  • Review, input, organize and generate all incoming work requests to ensure timely and efficient completion
  • Ensure all tools and materials are available and organized for all work orders and PM’s.
  • Maintain work backlog for all equipment and intervals
  • Continuous work on boiler safety
  • Investigate and resolve material shortages
  • Continuous participation in set up and maintaining the storeroom, shop and CMMS
  • Devote ample time and attention to formal and on-the-job training to enable mechanics to maintain/develop a high level of expertise with both new and existing equipment.
  • Communicate with the Maintenance Team to coordinate maintenance items to be completed. 
  • Provide detailed reports on downtime issues to promote proactive responses and practices.
  • Use SAP to create and close work orders, enter equipment data, track inventory and train mechanics on the proper use of SAP.
What You Will Need
  • English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write and speak English
  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • 3+ years of advancement through progressive maintenance management positions
  • Ability to obtain GCAP certification for Boiler 1&2 (within 24 months of employment)  
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel and Outlook 
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts (days/Swings/graveyard).
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  •  Pass the level 4 Post Offer Employment Test (POET)
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelors and/or Advanced Degree in a related science field
  • Experience with handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • 5+ years of advancement through progressive management positions
  • Experience with communicating verbally, and in writing, and making presentations.

Working surface is primarily concrete. Where standing is required, there are rubber mats which are one-half inch thick.
