Maintenance Mechanic

A Typical Day

The maintenance mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repair of all Plant equipment, including, but not limited to electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic systems.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work in a team environment with rotating shifts
  • Use basic power tools
  • Read blue prints and do layout work/sketches
  • Basic knowledge of gas, TIG, MIG and arc welding
  • Use plasma cutter
  • Timely analysis and repair of all breakdowns in plants using basic troubleshooting skills
  • Troubleshoot and wire a 3-phase motor
  • Troubleshoot and repair 110va and 24v control wiring
  • Rebuild centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed according to HCC safety policies
  • Demonstrate a high level of communication, cooperation and teamwork with production operators to maintain and repair plant equipment
  • Properly prioritize issues and take personal accountability to make sure all repairs fit the core valve of “Excellence”
  • Active participation and ownership in your training and development program and associated activities, classes and events, which will be held before, during, after shifts and during scheduled days off.  
  • Help coach and train teammates and participate in on the job, buddy training.
  • Place high priority on food safety and sanitation by understanding and executing HCC’s food safety and sanitation policies and procedures. 
  • Hold self and others accountable to HCC’s food safety & sanitation guidelines and policies by communicating any food safety incident, observation, or opportunity to your leadership team or teammates. 
  • Participate in food safety and sanitation root cause analysis and improvement activities when required.  
  • Prioritize safety above all other job duties by having a safety first approach at all times. 
  • Report any safety issues, observations, opportunities to your teams and follow up.  
  • Participate in departmental safety teams.
  • Be part of the ERT team for the site.

What You Will Need
  • English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write and speak English 
  • Must be willing and able to participate in departmental skills training program to achieve pay grade as outlined.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts (days/Swings/graveyard).  
  • Ability to obtain a Boiler level I &II – within 2 years of employment.  
  • Ability to obtain Class D water license – within 2 years of employment.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrates proficiency on position specific maintenance skills requirements forms.
  • SAP knowledge
  • 1 year experience in mechanical field
  • Experience with continuous improvement
  • Computer Proficient
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Exposure to dust, fumes, smoke, gases, or other irritating substances.

  • Exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity depending on time of year.

Working surface is primarily concrete. Where standing is required, there are rubber mats which are one-half inch thick.
