A Typical Day

The Producer Relations Coordinator is the first point of contact for Hilmar Cheese Company (HCC) producers and represents HCC throughout the community.  The role is responsible for facilitating the alignment, collection and distribution of information and services to help achieve optimal value for both producers and Hilmar Cheese Company.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of milk quality; develop and maintain milk quality measurement protocols and data monitoring; assist dairymen with troubleshooting quality problems. 
  • Responsible for supporting and maintaining producer programs designed to optimize producer and HCC value creation and retention. Examples include the Farmers Assuring Responsible Management programs.
  • Integral participation in the retention of Hilmar Cheese Company producers; participation in the recruitment of new producers and any subsequent assimilation requirements upon starting with Hilmar Cheese. 
  • Possess sufficient understanding of the Federal Milk Marketing Order and Hilmar Cheese milk pricing systems to be able to communicate these to producers.
  • Assist in coordinating milk hauling; assist producers with issues related to milk transportation; also partner with HCC milk receiving to ensure milk deliveries are meeting targets. 
  • Act as the primary conduit for information flow to HCC producers using a wide variety of communication tools; develop and maintain pool of resources for producer referral on specific dairy production topics. This responsibility is not limited to a standard workweek.
  • Implement and promote HCC policies, including HCC’s Leadership in Environmental and Dairy Stewardship (LEADS) program.   Responsible for conducting second-party FARM Animal Care and Environmental Stewardship evaluations. 
  • Assist with implementation of forward contracting program, Dairy Directions.
  • Represent HCC at various dairy industry meetings.

What You Will Need

  • High School Diploma and 10 years’ related experience, or Associates degree and 5 years’ related experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Dairy Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Business or related field plus 3 years of related experience, or Master’s degree.
  • At least 3 years’ of dairy farm industry experience.
  • Dairy, Food or Ag Business experience working with or supporting dairy producers.
  • Knowledge of best animal care and husbandry practices.
  • Knowledge of general agricultural industry and farming techniques
  • Knowledge of current and proposed dairy industry regulations – local, state, national, international. 
  • Knowledge of milk pricing models.
  • Intermediate experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, or related field plus 5 years related experience or Master’s degree plus 1 year related experience. 
     

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The work is primarily performed in an office environment and the physical demands are characteristic of a mostly sedentary role.  Specific details of the essential functions of the position is available in the Job Safety Analysis, made available on request.
